Board games are a great way to encourage communication in the ESL classroom.  They are also fun for ESL students.

This game is perfect for getting ESL students to ask simple questions about looks and people.  Does he have black hair? Does she wear glasses?  These are the types of questions this game will help students practice.  

This is an excellent game for communication, and it is fast and fun.  This really helps ESL students think on the spot.  

Scrabble is the classic word game.  There are few games that better help ESL students practice spelling and vocabulary.

Boggle is another classic spelling game.  Students use the letters to form words.

Taboo is one of the most popular party games, and more recently, has become one of the most popular ESL teaching games.

This trivia game is easier than Trivial Pursuit or Jeopardy, so ESL students can have more fun with simpler vocabulary.
